Bio

Introduction:

COPSE WORKS, is the company that Dominic and Emi started (in 2009). We decided early on to only explore ideas that we truly believe in. We only create items that we want to see in the world, regardless of popular trends or fashion.

The studio is dedicated to craft and craftsmanship, specializing in combining tools, techniques and materials from different disciplines.

We love designing and making tactile things that people will use, from furniture and boards to bags and tools. We also like collaborating, and have a well equipped space for creating many things.

Dominic, started his own studio-space to consentrate on making his own vision.
He is a cabinet and furniture maker by training, and a lifelong thinker and maker.

Starting in the mid 90's he made skateboards and wooden cameras with his school mentor. In collage he studied art and design, this being a passion for furniture making. The experience at collage, led to a working apprenticeship for a fine furniture and cabinet makers.  Several years later Dominic became self employed and continued working as a professional craftsperson in the UK (for around two decades).

  • 2016 (summer) he moved to Japan to continue developing his wood craft. Where he built and renovated Japanese homes, tiny houses and bespoke furniture works.

  • 2022 He started to build his own small studio/workshop where he currently designs and makes products, using mostly up-cycled materials.

Final note:

At copse works we create our own products, as well as collabrating with other brands. We look at playful ways to challenge convention, for the purpose of development.  We don't make pieces that look different for the sake of being different, simply works that are made to be used.
